Catch Cage on the Soundset Main Stage this year!

Cage’s life has gone from watching his father shoot heroin, to addiction and violence and mental institutions to cutting an album for Columbia Records and being a rising star in the heyday of the NYC independent rap scene, to the final culmination and personal triumph that his latest album, “Depart From Me”, has become. It’s a record from someone who has been through more extreme circumstances than most people could ever imagine, and has come out triumphant and a better person because of it, and whose artistic vision now reflects this.

Cage penned one of the landmark records of the golden era of NYC underground/independent rap music in the late 90s on Fondle ‘em records called Agent Orange b/w Radio Head. The record propelled Cage into cult star status, and his solo debut “Movies for the Blind” (on Eastern Conference records) was the realization of the very character he became through his tortured early years. It struck a chord, and his legion of dedicated fans grew ever bigger, attracted to his visceral and dangerous persona and music. He traveled the world several times over in support of the record and became a major draw in the independent show circuit. In 2004 he signed with Definitive Jux records releasing his 2nd solo album “Hell’s Winter. The record helped Cage achieve an even further level of notoriety for his dark and undeniable material, and in 2006 the video for “Shoot Frank” was nominated for an MTVu Woodie award for best video.

Cage’s newest album “Depart From Me” has received tremendous critical acclaim and pushed the boundaries of his particular brand of hip hop. Cage is currently working with Shia Labeouf on a feature film based on the rapper’s life in addition to working on new material with artists like Kid Cudi and Travis McCoy.
