(Read more about Raekwon, also performing with Ghostface!)
Known by many as "Rap’s Finest Storyteller", Ghostface Killah is the second member of the Wu-Tang Clan that is playing Soundset this year. Joined by Raekwon, these two are sure to put on an incredible show on May 27th!
On Twitter, Thursdays are known in the rap community as #TonyStarksThursday, a hashtag dedication to one of Ghost’s alter-egos Ironman aka Tony Starks. We decided to feature the one and only GFK today in honor of this sacred day online!
Soundset General Admission and VIP Tickets are available now at TicketWeb and in-store at Fifth Element (2411 Hennepin Ave. S, Minneapolis - no fees with cash or $5 minimum credit card purchase)
Ghostface Killah, like the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan, hails from Staten Island, New York. A former roommate of The RZA, Ghostface brought many of the members of the Wu family together very early on in the 1990s. Besides being a part of all the Wu-Tang Clan crew albums and heavy features on Raekwon’s solo efforts, Ghostface has himself released NINE solo albums in the last 16 years, and 5 compilation albums of new and old work. He’s also put out several collaborative projects with his crew Theodore Unit, Trife Da God, J Dilla, and MF Doom. A seeming mystery underlies the release Swift and Changeable, a project with everyone’s favorite villanous Producer/Emcee MF Doom that they began working on in 2006 - however the two recently dropped a vinyl piece called "Victory Laps" under the artist name DoomStarks, and MF Doom produced several tracks on the 2006 album Fishscale. In 2012, word is we can expect a new full album called Supreme Clientele Presents…Blue & Cream: The Wally Era.
Ghostface’s music fame stems from his incredibly fast delivery, vivd and graphic storytelling, and his ability to rap over almost any kind of beat, no matter the subject matter. He doesn’t just stop at rapping, however…In 2009 he released Ghostdeini: Wizard Of Poetry In Emerald City, an R&B-themed album with features from Kanye West, John Legend, Lloyd, and Ne-Yo, among others. In 2010, he released the highly acclaimed full-length Apollo Kids, featuring production on "2Getha Baby" from Minneapolis’ own Yakub (a member of Audio Perm, also playing at Soundset 2012) as well as Rhymesayers’ own Jake One on the very last track, a posse cut featuring Soundset alums Method Man and Redman and 2012 performer Raekwon.
These days, many artists don’t stop at music. GFK is no different! He’s been featured in several movies as himself or another character. Check out Hunter Dawson, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and Iron Man and more to get a glimpse of Ghostface on the silver screen. He has also recently appeared on TV shows like 30 Rock, Human Giant, The Boondocks, Rushing Jason, and even Mob Wives. Don’t stop there - pick up a video game system near you to check him out in Def Jam’s video game series!
